critical in the control of the secretion of insulin like growth factor I' Interestingly, high concentrations of this growth factor have been found in patients with progressive exudative lesions.' Our findings suggest that growth hormone is not essential for the initiation and development of diabetic retinopathy. Our patient's normal concentrations of insulin like growth factor I and her growth hormone deficiency emphasise the role of local growth factors in the development of this complication of diabetes.

Surgically Induced Focal Retinal Detachment Does Not Cause Detectable SD-OCT Retinal Changes in Normal Human Retina
Purpose Induction of focal retinal detachment (RD) for subretinal delivery of stem cells and gene therapy is increasingly common. In order to determine if this procedure has an adverse impact on the retina, we use spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to evaluate the pre- and postoperative retinal anatomy of the incidentally detached normal retina surrounding large submacular he...
متن کاملObstetric opinions regarding the method of delivery in women that have had surgery for retinal detachment
OBJECTIVES We sought to determine international obstetric opinions regarding the influence of a history of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment on the management of labour and to review the evidence base. DESIGN A questionnaire containing closed questions, with pre-coded response opinions, was designed to obtain a cross-section of the obstetric opinions. SETTING Questionnaires were distributed...
متن کاملGeneralized subcutaneous emphysema caused by concurrent cricoid cartilage fracture and cricotracheal detachment in a German shepherd dog
A dog was presented with history of progressive generalized subcutaneous emphysema and exercise intolerance secondary to dog fight. Radiographic evaluation confirmed extensive subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum and pneumoretroperitoneum. Surgical exploration revealed cricoid cartilage longitudinal fracture and cricotracheal detachment. The fractured cartilage was sutured and the cricoid ...
متن کاملBilateral Simultaneous Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment following Laser in situ Keratomileusis
A 21-year-old woman developed simultaneous rhegmatogenous retinal detachment after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in both eyes. She underwent pars plana vitrectomy surgery combined with endolaser photocoagulation and silicone oil tamponade in the right eye. A week later, pneumatic retinopexy was done in the left eye. As the retinal tear did not seal, 360° scleral buckling surgery was perf...
متن کاملOUTPATIENT RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY: A PRELIMINARY REPORT
Retinal detachment surgery has been considered an inpatient hospital procedure requiring preoperative and postoperative hospitalization. In this pilot study, outpatient retinal detachment surgery was performed on sixteen patients and the results (100% success rate after an average follow-up of 8.3 months) were comparable or better than reported overall success rates for retinal detachment ...
